Yamakai Karate Association Chief Referee : Liam Coakley 2nd Dan & SKGB Judge A
Liam is responsible for all Association Officials training. The programme will consist of the following.

a) Rules Presentation
b) Kumite practical exercise
c) Kata practical exercise
d) Theory exam.
Reqirements to achieve a Yamakai Officials Qualification
YKA Table Official: A recognised table official would hold the minimum of a 3rd Kyu grade and have attended at least one of the referees training courses.
YKA Judge B /Judge A : A qualified Association judge would have attained the age of 16yrs, hold the minimum of 3rd Kyu grade and would have attended two
referees training courses. Achieve no less than 80% in a theory exam and pass a practical assessment at a recognised Yamakai Karate Association event. This
would be valid for two years.
YKA Referee B / Referee A : A qualified Association referee would have attained the age of 18yrs, and hold the minimum of 1st Dan. Be qualified to a valad
Association judge level. Attend two referee training courses. Achieve no less than 90% in a theory exam and pass a practical assessment at a recognised
Association / SKGB event. This would be valid for two years.
The qualification of an official would be recorded in their own personal grading record book as issued by the Association.
Requirements to achieve a Scottish Karate Governing Body Qualification.
Before an official can progress to S.K.G.B level they must first hold a valid Association Referee A qualification. This will also be dependent on the efforts made by the
individual in assisting at Association and Governing Body recognised events.
Scottish Karate Judge B / Judge A : A qualified SKGB Judge would hold the minimum of a 1st Dan grade and would have attended two SKGB referees training
courses. Achieve no less than 80% in a theory exam and pass a practical assessment at a recognised SKGB event. This would be valid for two years.
Scottish Karate Referee B / Referee A : A qualified SKGB referee would hold a minimum of 1st Dan, be qualified to SKGB Judge A, attend two SKGB referee
training courses. Achieve no less than 90% in a theory exam and pass a practical assessment at a recognised SKGB event. This would be valid for two years.
The qualification of an SKGB official would be recorded in their own personal officials record book as issued by the SKGB refereeing commission.
Requirements to achieve a British Karate Federation Official.
A qualified BKF referee must hold a valid Scottish Karate Governing Body referee A qualification, it's also dependant on the efforts made by the individual in assisting
at National and International events organised by the SKGB.
Qualification as a BKF official would be recorded in the persons SKGB record book and endorsed by a BKF refereeing official.
European Karate Judge's & Referee's
A qualified EKF referee would have attained the age of 30years, hold a valid BKF referee qualification and the Chairman of their Governing Body must endorse their
development to EKF level.
A candidate for progression to this platform must pass both a theory & practical assessment set down by the EKF.
World Karate Federation Official
This is recognised to be the most prestigious of Karate officials qualification. A candidate for progression to this platform must pass both theory & practical
assessment set down by the World Karate Federation.
